Getting Here

Getting to Whidbey Island takes a little planning and weโ€™re here to help. Whidbey Island is in the heart of Puget Sound and is approximately a 45-mile drive from the Seattle-Tacoma airport and an 83-mile drive from Vancouver, British Columbia. Directions below are from all points north, south, east, and west.

Via Car Ferry

From Bellingham, Vancouver, and Points North

Take Interstate 5 South and south of downtown Everett, exit west onto SR 526. Locals call it the Boeing Freeway because youโ€™ll drive right by the very large Boeing manufacturing facility. Drive approximately 9 miles and turn right at the light onto 84th St. SW. Drive down a steep hill about .4 miles to Mukilteo Speedway (SR525). Turn right onto the Speedway, which goes directly into the ferry line. Follow the signs to get in the ferry lane (Mukilteo-Clinton). Youโ€™ll disembark in the seaside community of Clinton. Once in Clinton, SR 525N continues up the island. Clinton Beach Park is a quick first Island beach stop if you need to see the beach as soon as you disembark the ferry and it is accessible.ย

Also, starting just south of Everett, youโ€™ll also see signs referring to the โ€œCascade Loop.โ€ย  Whidbey Island is part of the Cascade Loop, so those signs will also help you find your way to Whidbey Island. The Cascade Loop Scenic Byway is a 440-mile-long National Scenic Byway and Washington State Scenic and Recreational Highway encircling the North Cascades in Washington.

From Seattle-Tacoma, Everett, and all Points South

Drive north on Interstate 5 and take exit 182. Bear left on the exit and merge onto state highway-525N (Mukilteo Speedway). Follow Whidbey Island Ferry signs to get in the ferry lane and catch the ferry to Whidbey Island (Mukilteo-Clinton). Once in Clinton, SR 525N continues up the island.ย

From Redmond, Bellevue and all Points East

Take Interstate 405 North. As it crosses over I-5, it becomes state highway 525, the Mukilteo Speedway and goes directly to the ferry line (Mukilteo-Clinton). Follow the signs to get in the ferry lane. Once in Clinton, SR 525N continues up the island.ย

From Coupeville / Port Townsend - Olympic Peninsula, all Points Westย

The ferry runs between Keystone on Whidbey Island and Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. Reservations required for cars. See ferry schedule. Turn right out of the Coupeville ferry terminal onto WA-20 (Engle Road). Turn south / right onto WA-525 to south Whidbey Island towns (Freeland, Langley, Clinton).

Via Deception Pass Bridge

From Deception Pass Bridge, Anacortes

From Bellingham โ€“ Vancouver B.C and Points North
Drive South from Bellingham, Vancouver, and points north on Interstate 5 and take exit 226. Turn right onto state Highway-536W until you reach state Highway 20, a two-lane roundabout (stay in the left lane). Turn left and travel about 4 miles until you cross over the Deception Pass Bridge onto Whidbey Island.

Although getting to Whidbey is faster on the Mukilteo ferry if you're south of Everett, some visitors want the experience of driving over Deception Pass Bridge. It is about 56 miles North of Everett. Here's the directions:

From Seattle โ€“ Tacoma and all Points South
Drive north from Seattle on Interstate 5 and take exit 226. Turn left onto state highway-536W until you reach state highway 20, a two-lane roundabout (stay in the left lane). Turn left and travel about 4 miles until you cross over the Deception Pass Bridge onto Whidbey Island.ย
