First Saturday Art Walks

Every first Saturday of the month, Langley’s art galleries open their new shows with the First Saturday Art Walk from 5 to 7 p.m. This is a time to meet the featured artists and take in the vibrant Langley art scene. Most galleries serve complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres and some feature live music on First Saturday.

Museo Mardi Gras 2016

In January, a couple of Langley galleries do not open until later in the month, giving time for the owners to recoup after the holidays and to open the new year with renewed energy and a big party.

Museo Gallery, owned by Sandra Jarvis, traditionally offers a mid-winter group show and party at the end of January featuring costumed artists and patrons, live music and performance art. In recent years, Museo’s January shows have included a Mardi Gras and Carnivale themes and a Saints & Sinners motif. It’s a great excuse to dress up and show your creative side!

During the holidays, most of our local galleries focus on affordably-priced gift art. In the Spring, our galleries feature garden and outdoor art, and floral themes. Museo stages a Garden Art show every April.

During the busy summer months when many tourists visit Langley, our galleries often focus on local landscapes, glass art, jewelry and table-top sculpture.

With an abundance of gifted artists and quirky characters on South Whidbey, First Saturday Art Walks are a great chance to mix and mingle with a lot of very creative people downtown in the Village by the Sea.
