Cello / Piano with Gideon Freudmann and Sheila Weidendorf
Sunday, January 5,  2 p.m.

CelloPiano is a new collaboration between cellist Gideon Freudmann & pianist Sheila Weidendorf. We play both original and improvisational music while exploring the possibilities of our combined musical lexicons. This musical journey is replete with sweetness, whimsy, joy, pathos, and the possibility of surprise. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our collaboration as much as we are enjoying the process! (And stay tuned for news of our forthcoming debut CelloPiano recording!)About Us:

Gideon Freudmann began studying cello at age 8 and almost immediately tried his hand at composition. His early attempts were … ambitious. As he gained a grasp of fundamentals like time and key signatures, voicing, and harmony, he expanded his solo cello forays to duets, string ensembles, and later pieces for ensembles including guitar, ukulele, mandolin, steel drum, and various western and world instruments. He has published a catalog of his string compositions and is excited to be writing and reworking pieces for cello and piano. Gideon has toured 4 continents, recorded 25 albums, scored several modern films, and performed live soundtracks for classic silent films.

Sheila Weidendorf inherited an old Cable Wellington upright grand piano at about age 6 and simply started playing it, exploring the sounds she heard from the stereo and her rural environment. She started studying in earnest at age 9. Significant injury derailed her studies and her career, though she did earn her B.A. in Music from the University of Minnesota School of Music. After a 20 year hiatus from playing, Music returned a few years ago. She now performs regularly with RASA 3 4 5 (her classical ensemble), Trio Improviso (an improvisational ensemble), and many musicians from around the globe. She has only performed on 2 continents (insert wink here!) is on two recording collaborations, and just came out with her first solo album of improvisational keyboard meditations. Her Trio Improviso is working on their first album, likely to be released in early 2025.
