Now casting: Whidbey Community Foundation calls for Board candidates

Do you have a passion for making Whidbey Island an even better place to live, work, and play? Do you want to help shape the future of local philanthropy? If so, the Whidbey Community Foundation (WCF) has the perfect opportunity for you: they’re looking for new Board members to join our ranks, and inviting YOU to step up and make a difference.

What’s a Board Member’s POV?

Imagine having a front-row seat to the incredible work happening across Whidbey Island—from supporting local nonprofits to awarding grants that change lives. As a WCF Board member, you’ll help guide our mission to improve quality of life on the island. They’re talking about impactful decision-making, meaningful relationships, and, yes, the occasional celebratory potluck.

Since 2016, WCF has awarded over $3 million in grants and now stewards nearly $6 million in community assets. That’s a lot of zeros, but don’t worry—you don’t need to be a financial wizard to join. They’re looking for people with strong community ties, a heart for service, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves.

Who should apply?

In short: YOU! WCF is striving to build a Board that reflects the vibrant diversity of Whidbey Island—from Baby Boomers to Millennials and everyone in between. Here’s what they’re looking for:

  • Lived experience: Whether you’ve been here your whole life or just recently discovered the magic of Whidbey, your unique perspective matters.
  • Passion for community: If you’re the type who volunteers, supports local businesses, or always shows up for a beach cleanup, they want you.
  • Diversity in all forms: Age, race, gender identity, socioeconomic background, geography—they’re committed to ensuring our Board represents the full spectrum of island life.
  • Knowledge of donor stewardship: Bonus points if you know how to engage with donors and community stakeholders, but enthusiasm goes a long way too!

To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old and live or work on Whidbey Island. No cape required, but a can-do attitude is a must.

What’s in it for you?

Besides the warm fuzzies from helping your neighbors, here are some perks of being on the WCF Board:

  • Networking: Rub elbows with some of the island’s most dedicated changemakers.
  • Skill-building: Learn the ins and outs of nonprofit governance, strategic planning, and community impact.
  • Legacy: Leave your mark on Whidbey Island by contributing to lasting, meaningful change.
