WICA is proud to present Cowboys Are My Weakness in partnership with Seattle’s renowned Book-It Repertory Theatre. Adapted from Pam Houston’s celebrated short story collection, this vivid production blends sharp wit, emotional honesty, and a touch of Western mystique to explore love, longing, and independence on the rugged frontier.

Originally a hit in 1999, this Book-It classic returns under the direction of Book-It’s Artistic Director, Myra Platt, with live music by Edd Key and Theresa Holmes. Four interwoven stories come to life on stage: How to Talk to a Hunter, Selway, For Bo, and the title story, Cowboys Are My Weakness. From the humor of loving a man more devoted to his deer head than his girlfriend, to a white-knuckle raft ride through romance and wilderness, to the tender joy of dogs, Houston’s tales capture the complexities of desire and the lure of the West.

Seven dynamic performers, including Equity actors Hilary Pickles* and Hailey Henderson*, bring a kaleidoscope of characters to life across these stories, offering Whidbey audiences a fresh take on this Seattle favorite.
