City of Langley Infrastructure Project Update: “Pack Your Patience”

The City of Langley is making significant strides in essential infrastructure improvements, with crews tackling multiple projects to enhance water and sewer systems. While progress is steady, we ask residents and visitors to be patient and prioritize safety near construction zones.

Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Safety First: Slow Down in Construction Zones

Recent reports of speeding near construction zones on 6th Street and the Edgecliff, Decker, and Furman areas are deeply concerning. These zones are inherently hazardous, and speeding endangers workers and drivers alike. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in construction zones, and violations could lead to severe consequences, including license suspension or worse, an accident. Please follow posted speed limits, heed detours, and respect flaggers’ directions to keep everyone safe.

Looking Ahead: Week of May 19th

Third Street Sewer Work: Preparation begins with fiber line relocations by Whidbey Tel, permitted tree removal, and pipe installation. This work necessitates the temporary closure of 20 parking spaces near the post office. Alternative daytime parking is available at the Methodist Church (Third & Anthes) and Island Church (6th & Cascade). This closure is expected to last two weeks.

6th Street Water Main & Fire Hydrants: Crews will continue installing the water main and add fire hydrants, maintaining current detours.

Edgecliff Sewer Work: Sewer mainline installation continues, requiring adjustments to drinking water flow for worker safety. Temporary brown water or reduced water pressure may occur.

As we approach a busy Memorial Day weekend, plan ahead on where you determine to park your vehicle. We encourage carpooling or using the wonderful Island Transit to get around easily. Thank you for your ongoing support and fortitude as we transition into our busy season!
