SUMMARY:Friday Night Music @ Dancing Fish: Jilian Linklater
DESCRIPTION:Friday Night Music at Dancing Fish: Jilian Linklater feat. The Swirlhood Band \nFriday\, January 17th  ~  5:30 – 7:30 p.m. \nJilian Linklater is back at Dancing Fish Vineyards with her stunning vocals and guitar\, this time playing alongside the Swirlhood Band. Read on to learn more about these talented musicians. \nMAKE RESERVATIONS!\nhttps://dancingfishvineyards.orderport.net/wines/Events \nJilian Linklater is joined by the Swirlhood Band. Seattle based indie/folk duo Swirlhood is the shared universe of songwriters Bethany Gray and Madeline Privott. Journey into a world that sees the common as commendable\, the ordinary as ornate. Where ripples of milky guitar and pointed melodies spill out of ancient wounds. From the Mexican border to the remote wilderness of Alaska\, these two have logged hundreds of hours exploring strange and silly\, beautiful and boring. Thanks to their lyrical fortitude\, delicate harmonies and simple choreography\, we have a glimpse into the unknown territory of Swirlhood. \nThis event is by reservation only and includes a shared appetizer board served to your table. A portion of the $25 admission fee will go to Whidbey Island Nourishes (WIN). Also\, the vineyard lights turn on at 4:45 pm sharp! \nPlease be aware that due to limited seating capacity in the Dancing Fish Barn\, some patrons may be assigned to larger communal tables. Alternatively\, if you have friends who are also attending this event\, please let us know via text/phone (360-632-4190) in advance of the performance so we can seat you at the same table. \nDancing Fish Vineyards \n1953 Newman Road\, Freeland \n(360) 632-4190 \ninfo@dancingfishvineyards.com

SUMMARY:Cello / Piano with Gideon Freudmann and Sheila Weidendorf @ WICA
DESCRIPTION:Cello / Piano with Gideon Freudmann and Sheila Weidendorf\nSunday\, January 5\,  2 p.m. \nCelloPiano is a new collaboration between cellist Gideon Freudmann & pianist Sheila Weidendorf. We play both original and improvisational music while exploring the possibilities of our combined musical lexicons. This musical journey is replete with sweetness\, whimsy\, joy\, pathos\, and the possibility of surprise. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our collaboration as much as we are enjoying the process! (And stay tuned for news of our forthcoming debut CelloPiano recording!)About Us: \nGideon Freudmann began studying cello at age 8 and almost immediately tried his hand at composition. His early attempts were … ambitious. As he gained a grasp of fundamentals like time and key signatures\, voicing\, and harmony\, he expanded his solo cello forays to duets\, string ensembles\, and later pieces for ensembles including guitar\, ukulele\, mandolin\, steel drum\, and various western and world instruments. He has published a catalog of his string compositions and is excited to be writing and reworking pieces for cello and piano. Gideon has toured 4 continents\, recorded 25 albums\, scored several modern films\, and performed live soundtracks for classic silent films. \nSheila Weidendorf inherited an old Cable Wellington upright grand piano at about age 6 and simply started playing it\, exploring the sounds she heard from the stereo and her rural environment. She started studying in earnest at age 9. Significant injury derailed her studies and her career\, though she did earn her B.A. in Music from the University of Minnesota School of Music. After a 20 year hiatus from playing\, Music returned a few years ago. She now performs regularly with RASA 3 4 5 (her classical ensemble)\, Trio Improviso (an improvisational ensemble)\, and many musicians from around the globe. She has only performed on 2 continents (insert wink here!) is on two recording collaborations\, and just came out with her first solo album of improvisational keyboard meditations. Her Trio Improviso is working on their first album\, likely to be released in early 2025. \nWICA Star: $45 | Standard: $30 | Youth 18 and Under: Free

SUMMARY:Yoga Nidra @ Maven Alchemy December 22
DESCRIPTION:Nature’s energy is telling us it’s time to turn inward\, be still\, go deep\, and reflect on life\, but the world is telling us it’s time to socialize & celebrate religious holidays & usher in the new year. This paradox can be a lot for so many people. Take time for yourself in the season of inward energy\, gather in community to co-regulate\, and learn a self-care ritual to carry you through the Wintering months.\nWe’ll gather at the Whidbey Island Yoga space in Langley’s Porter Building. I’ll share information about Winter & the Water element from the Chinese Medicine perspective and an Esoteric Acupressure pattern to support you through the Winter season. Then\, you’ll create an intention for 2025 and plant its seed during the Yoga Nidra. We’ll apply a provided essential oil to the points before getting comfy for the Yoga Nidra.\nLimited to the first 10 registrants\, so register early. $30 includes a season specific essential oil sample and self-care ritual to take home & use for the Winter.\nNo experience necessary. If you can lie comfortably on the floor on a yoga mat with a pillow under your knees and covered in a blanket\, then you can do Yoga Nidra. Bring your own mat and props to be supremely comfortable\, but there are a few at the studio to use if you don’t have any.\nJoin me Sunday\, 12/22\, 3:30-5 p.m. at 222 Anthes Ave\, Langley in the Whidbey Island Yoga space. SUMMARY:The Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss your chance to see Whidbey Island Dance Theatre’s 32nd annual “The Nutcracker!”\nTickets are still available\, but they’re selling fast! \nThis year’s performances will be bittersweet for all of us involved and the community that has seen “The Nutcracker” over the past 15 years. Danny Ward\, brother of founder Charlene Brown\, is retiring from the role he made famous\, Great Uncle Neville. With his bushy silver hair and wobbly cane assisted hobble\, this hard-of-hearing patriarch of the Rothchild family endeared himself as a silent favorite of audiences over the years. He brings a lovable comic relief as he conspires with the mischievous boys to torment their siblings\, flirts with the maids\, and struggles to keep up with the others in the dance. If you have loved Danny’s Great Uncle Neville\, it’s time to catch his final performances this year before he returns to being a fellow audience member. Catch Danny and the many talented performers of this production\, including a large cross-section of our community\, in this special production of “The Nutcracker” at South Whidbey High School’s Auditorium: \nFri. SUMMARY:WICA Let It Snow: Holiday Revue\, New Seasonal Ballet
DESCRIPTION:Let It Snow: by Christopher Stowell\n\n\n\nThis jazzy\, sophisticated\, and lighthearted Let it Snow: A Holiday Revue is created by WICA Board Member Christopher Stowell. \nThe seasonal array of dances are inspired by the spirit and aesthetic of mid-century classics like White Christmas and the television variety shows of the 50’s and 60’s with the glamour and brilliance only classical ballet can provide. Based on the dancer’s memories of holiday celebrations with echoes of nostalgia and joy; this supper-club like show features Richard Bower’s arrangements of “jukebox” holiday favorites with live piano by Sheila Weindendorf and vocals by Ada Faith-Feyma and John Macarro. Grab your champagne and come on in for the show because….baby it’s getting cold outside.

December 13\, 7 p.m. \nSat. December 14\, 2 p.m.\nSun. December 15\, 2p.m. \nFri. December 20\, 7 p.m. \nSat. December 21\, 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.\nSun.
