To complement DjangoFest Northwest\, Rebecca Albiani will explore the many ways artists have portrayed the Roma people\, whose culture and history have fascinated audiences since the Renaissance. From the fortune tellers painted by Caravaggio and his followers\, which often reinforced negative stereotypes of people living on the margins of society\, to the dreamlike mystery of Henri Rousseau’s Sleeping Gypsy\, these works reveal changing attitudes toward the Roma across time. Rebecca will also examine Jacques Callot’s remarkable series of etchings depicting Romani life\, which reflect an almost ethnographic curiosity and attention to detail. DESCRIPTION:Unscripted: A Constitutional Conversation with Andrew Siegel \nFriday\, September 25th @ 7:30 p.m. \nFrom the voice that brought us the Constitution Series\, Professor Andrew Siegel researches and writes about constitutional theory\, contemporary constitutional and public law\, and American legal history. He is a nationally recognized expert on the United States Supreme Court\, who frequently lectures on that subject in a variety of academic and professional settings. He is a co-author of The Supreme Court Sourcebook and his scholarship has appeared in a variety of influential journals including the Texas\, Fordham\, and UC-Davis Law. Professor Siegel has held a variety of leadership positions in his time at Seattle University. From January 2020 to June 2023\, he was the Law School’s academic Dean\, serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2020 to 2022 and then Vice Dean for Academic Affairs from 2022 to 2023. From 2014 to 2017\, he served as Associate Dean for Planning and Strategic Initiatives\, where he led efforts to develop and launch a variety of creative degrees\, programs\, and courses. He has also chaired the Strategic Planning\, Budget\, Faculty Appointments\, Personnel Review\, Curriculum\, Executive\, and Dean’s Advisory Committees. Coughenour\, former chief judge of the Western District of Washington\, continues to hear cases in a number of courts including Guam\, while on senior status. He was appointed to the District Court bench in 1981 by President Reagan. Born in Pittsburgh Kansas\, he received his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law and in 1966 came to Seattle to practice law\, as well as to teach at the University of Washington School of law until his appointment to the bench. He has heard cases continuously for over 45 years! A noted and frequent speaker about the importance of preserving an independent judiciary\, Judge Coughenour will be interviewed on WICA’s stage by Bob Merry. Their conversation will discuss the Rule of Law and why the continued independence of the judiciary is crucial to our democracy. DESCRIPTION:  \nTreasure Island: A Telling for the New World \nSaturday\, July 11\, 2026\n7:30 PM\nMainstage\n$20 / Pay What You Will \nTreasure Island: A Telling for the New World is an 8-hour mini-series for radio\, based on the classic by R.L. Stevenson.  This adaptation resets the story in the Bayous of Louisiana\, the Port of New Orleans\, and the Caribbean in 1828.  The fully dramatized production stars the voices of Keith David as Long John Silver\, John Goodman as Billy Bones\, and Glynn Turman as the storyteller\, along with members of the Firesign Theatre—David Ossman and Phil Proctor.  The series features an original score by multiple-Grammy-winner Taj Mahal.  Sound Design was supervised by multi-Oscar-winner Randy Thom of Skywalker Sound.  Writer/Director Orson Ossman produced the series for Otherworld Media\, the internationally renowned production company based on Whidbey Island for 38 years. The series is airing on local public radio station KSER-Everett & Freeland and public radio stations nationwide\, beginning July 1st.  This event is the local premiere for our cast\, crew and supportive community.
