SUMMARY:Intro to Seaweed Foraging
DESCRIPTION:Learn which seaweeds you can harvest and how with Jeanie McElwain of Sound Water Stewards. Jeanie will introduce attendees to Whidbey’s best edible seaweeds at the largest kelp forest in Washington State\, right off of central Whidbey! \nDress for the weather\, including close-toed sturdy shoes—waterproof are best but not necessary. She has led numerous programs for Sno-Isle Libraries\, Sound Water Stewards and other organizations on Whidbey Island. Learn more about Sound Water Stewards and the amazing work SWS does to protect and preserve the coastal ecosystems of the Salish Sea through education\, science and stewardship at their website: www.soundwaterstewards.org \nThis free outdoor program is part of Sno-Isle Libraries’ summer-long Library Walks series. Visit a new Whidbey Island location each month this summer to learn about Whidbey’s local gems and complementary library resources. \nHosted by the Coupeville Library.

SUMMARY:Sno-Isle Library - Learn to Discern Health Information
DESCRIPTION:Sno-Isle Library Online Event. There’s a lot of conflicting medical and health information out there\, and the information we act on can have a big impact on our well being. At this workshop\, you’ll learn strategies to help you verify medical information you hear from family\, friends\, or the internet and investigate the reputation of sources that share medical information with the public. We all want the best information when it comes to our health – you’ll leave this workshop with more confidence that you can find it. \nThis workshop is being offered in partnership with the Center for an Informed Public (CIP). CIP is a multidisciplinary research center at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle that has a mission to “resist strategic misinformation\, promote an informed society and strengthen democratic discourse.” The center’s work revolves around four pillars: research; education; engagement; and law and policy. \nRegister to attend this event at www.sno-isle.org. This event will be recorded for later viewing on the Sno-Isle Libraries YouTube channel\, and will be available for 5 years. \nZo Hill / Coupeville Library\n(360) 678-4911\naskus@sno-isle.libanswers.com
