July at Whidbey Art Gallery
July 1, 2019 - August 1, 2019
Free
Whidbey Art Gallery is pleased to announce that our featured artist for July is Janet King, award winning mixed media felt artist. She creates dimensional wall art, sculptural and abstract vessels and flowing wearable pieces. This month she is featuring three new ocean inspired pieces, a series of mini ghost garments embellished with copper and a few table pieces. Her ghost garments are made with fine merino and thin silk adorned with locks from Wild Rose Farm up near Coupeville. Her ocean wall art pieces are made with fiber from Harrisville, New Hampshire where the oldest continuously run, family-owned fiber mill is located. Their heathered wool is layer in four to six layers and wet felted together with water and olive oil soap.
Our guest artist is Ivan Neaigus who integrates painting and sculpture. His paintings began with the construction of three sculptures made of cedar, fir and hemlock branches. He used photos of these pieces to create compositions for his paintings. His goal was to create three dimensional imagery with geometry, light, dark and color. His sculptures are done using a direct carving method and instinctual planning. He feels that as a finished piece, the form, senses and the tangible verge into a mysterious unity.
