Christmas by the Sea

Holiday 2021

Santa’s in the house! And on the phone and on email and zoom. Holiday 2021 Christmas by the Sea will capture the magic of Christmas from a child’s perspective. The season kicks off with the Lighting of Langley on November 27th at 4 – 5 pm, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, with a progressive tree lighting ceremony and the arrival of Santa in his “Snow House” (clear dome) in the lot next to city hall where he’ll be available for socially distanced visits and photo ops from children and those young at heart.

Trees this year will be placed in Langley Park, Boy and Dog Park and the Second Street Plaza, decorated with a “snow globes” theme. The theme will be extended to a 12’ “Snow House” for Santa, and Santa will be available in his abode every weekend starting on November 27th through December 17th. He will live stream to Facebook and host Zoom calls while in residence. Treats and sponsored coupons will be offered by his helpers.

Santa (there will be a rotating roster of Santas) will also have an email address, Santa@Whidbey.com, and a dedicated voice mail(360-444-ELF1) with a pre-recorded message on which children can leave messages for the big guy. (Sponsored by Whidbey Telecom) The children’s emails will be shared and answered in a newsletter, sent to those that have emailed him, once a week during the holidays.

Whidbey Telecom’’s phone booths in Langley will have Santa’s phone number posted, with an invitation to call Santa and leave a message (free call). Selfies will be encouraged and uploaded to Facebook, our website, and social media.

Promotional messaging, via news release, ads in local newspaper, 15-second spots on PBS, posters, banners, social media and via our weekly newsletter, will start on November 20th. We will also employ community marketing via Peach Jar (local school email) and via bill stuffers from local utility companies.
