Dan & Kat Rider

Contact to visit 925-787-6244

Dan Rider creates unique contemporary sculpture. He has recently returned “back to the garden” with a series of outdoor modern cast concrete sculpture totems called Drods. He was influenced early in his career by the abstract sculpture works of Isamu Noguchi, Louise Nevelson, and later on by Stephen De Staebler. Dan’s clients have installed many of his contemporary cast stone Totems to mark their landscapes with a unique focal point. Signature recurring themes involve a layering of multi-media dimensional elements that might include cast glass, aluminum & copper, and reinforced concrete.

Island Shakespeare Festival

5476 Maxwelton Road, Langley, WA 98260

Shows Runs mid July to mid September
Thursday - Sunday
Shows Start at 5:00pm

Island Shakespeare Festival is about people. Well, and Shakespeare. But also, artists, community, learning, connections, collaborations, music, art, life, the Pacific Northwest, and, oh, yeah, we truly believe that everyone should be able to see quality theatre. Performances are “Pay what you will.”  We “pass the hat” after performances and appreciate donations.  Shakespeare and classical theatre are what we do, but it really is more than that. In some ways, one could say that to us, theatre is sacred.

Generally, each full production runs three weekends.

OutCast Productions is a private, 501(c)(3), not for profit theatre company incorporated in Washington State. As a theatre company that focuses on producing “theatre with a social conscience,” we strive to bring to our audience productions that encourage critical thinking about the social issues of our time. Our goal is to provoke a dialogue about such issues as oppression, human rights, politics, and the psychological and emotional worlds of human beings at large.

We welcome the opportunity to earn the trust of the community and deliver a product that serves and includes them.

Ned Farley and K. Sandy O’Brien are the managing partners of OutCast.

Whidbey Island Dance Theatre was founded in 1993 to promote dance as a significant cultural resource for Whidbey Island and the surrounding communities, and to provide pre-professional experience for outstanding young dancers. WIDT presents a broad range of dance genres including ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, tap and ballroom. Strict standards of training and choreography provide dancers with opportunities for personal and artistic growth. WIDT was a member of Regional Dance America from 2001-2012.

WIDT presents two major productions each year. Our largest production, The Nutcracker, has enjoyed 18 highly successful seasons. In spring, our Dance & Choreography Showcase highlights the diverse talents of our broadly trained dancers and features the works of both resident and guest choreographers. Guest choreographers in recent years include Eva Stone, Aaron Cash, Danielle Wilkins, Laurentia Barbu, Andrea Binder, Leigh-Ann Cohen Hafford, Jenna Kantor, and Daniel Wilkins of DASS Dance. In 2004, Sharon Tyers, formerly of the Martha Graham Dance Company, set the first modern dance master work on WIDT: Martha Graham’s Appalachian Spring.

Since 2000, WIDT has performed in Tucson, Salt Lake City, greater Los Angeles, and at the National Dance Festival in Pittsburgh, PA as well as a dozen cities in Washington. Local WIDT guest appearances include a featured evening at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in 2007 and 2004, a performance including Waltz of the Flowers and Appalachian Spring at the internationally acclaimed Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens’ May Day festival, the Festival of Friends at the Northshore Performing Arts Center in Seattle, and the Ballet Bellevue Winter Gala at the Meydenbauer Center Theatre in Bellevue.

Artistic Director Charlene Brown began her dance studios, Island Dance, on Whidbey Island in 1987. The daughter of a dance educator, Char‘s whole life has been committed to offering the highest level of dance education and professional instructors to students. Extending this commitment to the art of choreography led to the formation of WIDT in 1993.
