Mardi Gras!

February 28 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

FREE!

On Fat Tuesday, February 28, we’re bringing Mardi Gras all the way from New Orleans to South Whidbey! Join us at Bayview Community Hall from 6pm – 8:30pm, and wear your masks, beads, and costumes for a festive night of dancing, costume contests, and of course, classic Southern-style food. Admission is free and families are welcome.

High-energy dance band Ken Pickard & Zydeco Explosion, will play both authentic and modern styles of Zydeco music, perfect for a waltz, two-step, or just doing the hippie shake. The band features Whidbey’s own Ken Pickard on accordion, Paul Sherman from Anacortes on bass, and Bow’s Ranger Kidwell Ross on rub board. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

And don’t forget to arrive with a healthy appetite! The Big W Food Truck will be parked right outside to serve up authentic Louisianan favorites, including gumbo, muffulettas, beignets, and more! Beer, wine, and soft drinks also will be available for purchase.

In addition, prizes will be awarded to those who go above and beyond to dress the part. Costume contest categories include Best Men’s Costume, Best Women’s Costume, Best Couples’ Costume, Best Kid’s Costume, and Best Mask.

Don’t have a Mardi Gras costume but still want to participate? No problem! Our local face-painter-extraordinaire, Fairy Magic, will be stationed and ready to paint faces of young and old. Beads will be plentiful as well!

This event is sponsored by Goosefoot, and is free to attend, with a charge for food and beverages. For more information, visit www.goosefoot.org.
